Skin Cancer

About

Skin Cancer is one of the major health concerns as we see raising levels of Sun radiation and other important environmental exposures.

There are relevant steps for screening, monitoring and treatment of Skin Cancer.

Screening and Monitoring

The most important tool is the clinical dermatologic exam. A Full Skin Body Exam, also called “Mole Screening” that includes even your nails and mouth assessment should be performed in a time frame according to your risk factors, that are also seen during the consultation. Patients that suffered from skin cancers may be also submitted to a Lymphonodal palpation exam.

This is supplemented by an armed propaedeutic test called Dermoscopy or Dermatoscopy. With this, beyond checking the ABCDE’s of skin cancer we provide a much-detailed structural assessment of features that may contribute to skin cancer detection. Higher risk patients may be referred to another test called “Mole Screening”, that monitors the appearance of new lesions through an automatized device.

Removing and Assessing Suspicious lesions

When we find suspicious lesions, a skin biopsy normally is a Grade I recommendation for risk assessment. After this, a Histopathology exam will be performed to evaluate which kind of treatment will be necessary.

Treatment of Skin Cancer

Treating Skin Cancer has also different modalities. While surgery should be considered in many cases, other treatments such as laser, field therapy, oral treatments, Photodynamic Therapy can be considered under special circunstances.
